Rural areas across Europe face a complex set of challenges, including limited career opportunities, poor infrastructure and the continuing out-migration of young, educated people to urban centres. These trends have led to a critical shortage of skilled labour, further undermining the economic sustainability of rural communities. In addition, young farmers represent a declining demographic, with only a small percentage running farms, exacerbating the generational divide in the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, rural areas also hold untapped potential, with many innovative initiatives coming from young social entrepreneurs and agricultural professionals. Recognising this duality, the CORE project was designed to address the root causes of youth unemployment in rural and agricultural areas. By combining the expertise of rural and agricultural youth organisations, academic institutions and private sector actors, CORE aims to empower young people, equip them with the tools and knowledge to thrive, and revitalise rural areas through sustainable solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project also uses research, collaborative dialogue and advocacy to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by rural youth.
