Regenerative Agricultural Practices for Environmental Rejuvenation and Sustainable Ecosystems on European Farms

Regenerative agriculture offers farmers a way to reduce the negative effects of agricultural activities on land and landscapes while supporting soil health, ecosystem services, biodiversity and carbon sequestration. However, access to clear and practical information remains a barrier to its wider understanding and application. A needs analysis carried out before ReGenerate identified strong interest among farmers but also significant gaps in accessible educational materials, practical guidance, suitable digital resources and opportunities to learn from the experience of other farmers.

ReGenerate responds to these needs by making knowledge about regenerative agriculture easier to access and apply. Its primary target group is farmers, including small and medium-sized and family farms, whether or not they already use sustainable farming approaches. Other stakeholders include agricultural professionals, policy makers, environmental organisations, NGOs, researchers, experts and representatives of the agricultural sector.

The project brings together organisations from Czechia, Germany, Italy and Spain to combine practical farming experience, regenerative agriculture expertise and vocational education and training. It will develop digital educational resources based on real farming practices, expert knowledge and challenges encountered in the field, alongside an online training platform where these materials will be freely available. Through this European exchange of experience, ReGenerate seeks to strengthen farmers’ knowledge of regenerative approaches and support climate- and environmentally responsible farming practices.

Project objectives

To meet farmers’ needs in the field of regenerative agriculture by developing accessible digital educational materials that introduce specific principles and practices applied across the EU and provide knowledge on more climate-friendly agricultural solutions.

To develop digital educational materials for farmers, including good practice examples from regenerative farms, a podcast series featuring farmers, stakeholders and experts, and inspirational learning materials addressing practical challenges.

To develop an online training platform dedicated to the project’s target groups, providing free access to project materials adapted for online use, together with self-evaluation tools and pilot testing involving farmers.

Good practice examples

A collection of 20 examples, five from each participating country, presenting farmers already applying regenerative agricultural practices, the techniques they use, the challenges encountered, their advantages and disadvantages, and practical recommendations for other farmers.

Podcast series

Ten educational podcast episodes featuring farmers, experts and other relevant stakeholders discussing regenerative agriculture techniques, experiences, challenges and practical knowledge.

Inspirational Learning Materials

Twenty visual educational resources addressing practical issues that farmers may face, including topics such as soil erosion, water scarcity, pest infestations and crop vulnerability to climate extremes.

Online training platform and self-evaluation tools

A free digital learning environment bringing together the project’s educational resources and five self-evaluation tools that allow users to check their knowledge and identify areas for further learning.

Expected impact

ReGenerate is expected to improve farmers’ access to practical and understandable information on regenerative agriculture and strengthen their knowledge of its principles, benefits, challenges and application in different European contexts. By connecting educational content with examples from practising farmers, the project seeks to make knowledge exchange more relevant to everyday farm management and to encourage greater awareness of sustainable approaches to agriculture.

At local and regional level, participating farmers are expected to share knowledge within their professional and community networks.
At national level, the consortium will contribute to wider access to the project’s know-how and educational resources through its existing networks.
At European level, the openly available digital resources are designed to extend their use beyond the partner countries and benefit farmers, educators, researchers and other stakeholders interested in regenerative agriculture.

By building knowledge and making practical regenerative farming resources freely accessible, ReGenerate has the potential to contribute to more environmentally responsible farming practices and wider awareness of the role agriculture can play in addressing climate and biodiversity challenges.
