Project SiT

Sustainability in TCLF

Web page: sitproject.eu

The SiT – Sustainability in TCLF project responds to a critical need within the Textile, Clothing, Leather, and Footwear (TCLF) industry to adopt more sustainable and circular practices. Despite its economic importance, the TCLF sector remains a significant contributor to environmental pollution, with issues such as high resource consumption, waste production, and complex global supply chains. In response to these challenges, the SiT project aims to redefine the future of the TCLF industry through comprehensive education and training initiatives.

In collaboration with 15 partners across 8 EU countries, SiT brings together a diverse consortium of vocational education, higher education, and industry leaders. This initiative seeks to close the skills gap in green practices, by developing a workforce that is familiar with sustainable production methods, circular economy principles, and digital skills. By integrating cutting-edge curricula and developing practical learning resources, the SiT project equips learners and professionals with the tools to contribute to a greener TCLF sector. This aligns with the EU’s broader objectives of reducing environmental impacts, increasing industrial resilience and supporting the transition to a green economy across Europe.

Our role in the project

Quality assurance & evaluation

Project objectives

1

Identify a competency-based training structure for the green transition of the TCLF sector.

2

Develop innovative and multidisciplinary curricula based on learning centres and active learning.

3

Promote the acquisition of functional, transversal, and green knowledge, competences and skills for learners.

4

Promote knowledge sharing between higher education/research and VET, public and business sectors (KTs).

5

Promote the development of a green transformation ecosystem for SMEs and start-ups through an interactive platform and local hubs, facilitating the networking of potential stakeholders for the development of the TCLF sector.

Main results

Training resources

Development of training programmes, materials and methodologies

MOOC platform

Development and updating of a MOOC platform for students in higher education and vocational training, which will also be open to professionals

Pilot training

Developed curricula will be tested and delivered in three different ways:

  1. Open and online training
  2. Blended training, including face-to-face training and project-based learning
  3. Work-based learning

Interactive platform

An interactive platform will be set up to support the creation of local multi-stakeholder networks, to share good practices and to support the start-up process of green textile enterprises

Expected impact

At the local level, SiT drives the green transition of the TCLF sector, strengthening its resilience to challenges such as climate change, digital transformation, and post-pandemic recovery in line with the 2030 Agenda. By creating green TCLF ecosystems and labs, the project promotes sustainable entrepreneurship and collaboration within the “knowledge triangle,” where businesses inform research on skills gaps, while research supports SMEs in developing sustainable local economies.

At the national level, SiT will increase the efficiency of higher education and vocational training programmes, expanding their reach and relevance. Capacity building efforts will bridge education, research, and industry to support tthe green transition of the textile sector. Through advocacy, SiT’s methodologies and tools will be included in regional and national education catalogues, supported by an open service platform.

At the European level, SiT will identify key green skills and entrepreneurial skills needed for emerging TCLF roles, influencing the sector’s future. By developing adaptable learning modules, SiT will facilitate transferability to other sectors and countries, support the integration of these competences into VET and HE curricula across the EU, and establish sustainable collaborative networks beyond the life of the project.
