Europe is facing a huge humanitarian crisis.
Nearly a million migrants and refugees have arrived since 2015 and countries are struggling to find ways to integrate them.
One proven method is through community urban gardens.
These green spaces allow people from different cultures to get to know each other in a peaceful, safe and active environment.
UGAIN will provide NGOs, municipal governments and new (or existing) community gardeners with the necessary training and support, so that local people and immigrants can grow through nature.
UGAIN proposes to:
- Promote and support the use of urban gardens as a welcoming place for the social integration and orientation of immigrants.
- Share information and best practices.
- Increase cultural acceptance and understanding.
- Promote the empowerment of immigrants and offer them the possibility of acquiring basic skills that will increase their future job opportunities and at the same time provide them with better access to social services in the receiving country, making effective social integration possible.
The UGAIN project will develop an online training APP, valid for computer and mobile, so that urban gardens can fulfill their potential as meeting points for social integration.
